Architecture

Still being built. Screens come once it's further along; for now, this is how it's put together.

A self-hosted CCTV system with machine vision, built on Frigate. It records every camera, detects people and vehicles, and sends events over MQTT for alerts to build on. For now it runs as a sandbox with three simulated cameras, before moving to real ones.

What's Included

The Problem

Plain CCTV records everything and someone has to watch it. This one detects what matters, keeps it by type, and puts the events on MQTT so alerts can be built on top, all on hardware at home.

Under the Hood

  1. Highlight 01

    Cameras before hardware

MediaMTX loops sample videos as three RTSP cameras, so detection, recording and retention can be tuned before buying a camera.

  2. Highlight 02

    One switch to real cameras

Each camera is one go2rtc stream. Moving to real hardware means swapping the stream URL, adding a substream for detection and dropping the simulated cameras.

  3. Highlight 03

    Light enough for a laptop

Detection runs on the CPU at 5 fps for now, with semantic search, face recognition and plate reading off to fit in 8 GB of RAM.
